Lavender Birchen Marans are a striking and uncommon variety known for their dramatic contrast, calm temperament, and richly colored eggs. Their soft lavender-gray bodies are beautifully offset by classic birchen markings, with silver-white hackles and saddle feathers set against darker wings and tail, giving them an elegant and unmistakable look.
True to the Marans reputation, hens lay a variety of chocolate-brown eggs, often with a lovely double bloom that can appear pink or purple. The depth of color alone makes them a standout in any egg basket, while their consistent production adds real value for the backyard flock.
These birds are generally gentle, steady, and easy to manage. They do well in mixed flocks, adapt to confinement or free-ranging, and are hardy across a range of climates. Hens are very calm, friendly, and excellent foragers, while roosters tend to be confident yet sweet to their ladies, always clucking to give them "treats".
Marans have been a favorite of ours since we began breeding them in 2005, and we’ve been especially drawn to the lavender variety since its development. We continue working to deepen the lavender color, improve feather quality, and refine egg color with each generation. They are still a work in progress, but one we truly enjoy—and we hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
