Lavender Birchen Marans are a rare and striking variety known for their soft lavender-gray plumage, silver birchen patterning, calm temperament, and beautiful eggs. The birchen pattern places lighter color through the hackles, saddle, and breast, while the lavender gene softens the darker plumage into smoky shades of gray.
 
Their eggs range from warm brown to rich chocolate and often develop a heavy natural bloom that creates beautiful rosy pink, mauve, or purple tones. Egg color and bloom can vary throughout the laying season, making each egg uniquely beautiful.
 
These birds are generally gentle, steady, and easy to manage. They do well in mixed flocks, adapt well to either confinement or free-ranging, and are hardy across a range of climates. Hens tend to be calm, friendly, and excellent foragers, while roosters are typically confident but attentive to their hens—often calling them over whenever they find a special treat.
 
We have been breeding Lavender Birchen Marans since 2013, carefully selecting for Marans type, feather quality, temperament, pattern, and egg color. They are still a work in progress, but one we truly enjoy—and we hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
